The Subaru EJ was a litre horizontally-opposed (or 'boxer') four-cylinder petrol engine with dual overhead camshafts. The naturally aspirated E engine was primarily introduced in the Subaru GD/GG Impreza and Subaru BL/BP Liberty as a more powerful alternative to the single overhead cam EJ engine, but effectively substituted the EJ when the GE/GH Impreza was released in.
